In no particular order:

  1. Syd Mead

Syd Mead is responsible for the look of movies such as TRON and Blade Runner. I like his art because it is futuristic, but still retains the feel of 1950s era technology and design.

2. JollyJack

JollyJack here is British. +1. He has a very dry sense of humor. +1. He watches shows like Top Gear (above) and Doctor Who. +3. And while some of his art is a little... risque?... I really like his style.

3. Ralph McQuarrie

This guy designed Star Wars. Need I say more?

4. Van Gough

Van Gough has always been one of my favorite painters. His style is surreal, but it contains quite a bit of detail. I particularly like the fact that the message here is not ambiguous in the least. He also starred in an episode of Doctor Who.

5. Bill Watterson

Bill Watterson is just awesome. Calvin and Hobbes was one of the first comic strips I ever read, and I've been hooked since day one. As I've grown older, I've realized just how good it is: it deals with themes not normally discussed in a 'kid's' cartoon (i.e. death, in the baby raccoon story) in a way that lets kids understand it, but still has meaning for older audiences.
